As a reminder back in the Fall of 2014, TxDLA President Trish Trifilo and Public Policy Chair Raymond Rose requested policy positions on distance learning and education, as well as proposed legislation from the Texas Gubernatorial candidates. Following is the first response from our now Governor Greg Abbott:
Thank you for writing us with this request.
Greg Abbott believes that digital learning has the potential to improve student outcomes by enabling schools to provide their students with a wide variety of highly personalized learning tools and courses. Digital learning will also help students learn at a pace appropriate for them, and give students greater options to choose courses and platforms that will fit best with their unique learning style.
Greg Abbott has proposed a number of specific policy proposals promoting digital learning:
These proposals and the rest of Greg Abbott's "Educating Texans" policy plan can be read online in detail here:http://townhall254.gregabbott.com/forum/educating-texans/.
General Abbott's goal is to make Texas the number one education system in the United States: "As Governor, I want to see the Texas education system rise to its rightful place to be number one in the nation. We will no longer patch the cracks in our education system every few years. Instead, we will achieve lasting results by giving our schools and families the tools they need to create a solid foundation for learning. We will cultivate a culture of aspiration and achievement. That means setting expectations of excellence for our children, our teachers, our principals and our parents, and then giving educators the flexibility to achieve them.”
