What is TxDLA doing for you? TxDLA provides members with MUCH MORE than just an annual distance learning conference. Following are some of the initiatives the association is involved in on behalf of the distance learning industry in Texas:
TxDLA increased awards this year to include the entire constituency scope. This included expanding the Excellence & Innovation in Distance Learning Awards to include a recipient from each category TxDLA represents.
TxDLA is developing an outreach campaign for state and local legislators. The program is designed to reach out to legislators and ask for their current position statement on distance learning and providing information for them on distance learning to increase their awareness of what that entails.
Corpus Christi Mayor Nelda Martinez delivered a proclamation this year at the opening of the conference. This will be a practice that is expanded next year to increase awareness of the association for the cities TxDLA visits as an association.
TxDLA invited Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Member, Dr. Andrew Lofters, to the conference this year. TxDLA hopes to invite members of its constituencies governing bodies to attend the TxDLA conference to encourage their awareness and involvement with the group.
A website update form was created and posted on the website so that membership can contribute to the look and feel of the online presence for the association. Please fill the form out to update information on the website.
A member spotlight will be in effect in May, highlighting a member of TxDLA for the work they do to contribute to the progress of distance learning.
A "Public Policy" section was added to the website to provide legislative updates that affect our membership constituencies.
Conference Proceedings Publication: A call for papers will be sent out to all conference presenters for this publication at the end of May. This will be the first publication for TxDLA before the official state association journal is launched.
TxDLA Online Journal is in development. A peer-reviewed journal is in the works for TxDLA to publish distance learning research that is relevant to the constituencies represented by the association. Publication guidelines and review board information will be announced in the Fall. A call for reviewer applications will be sent out at the end of summer.
TxDLA MOOC: TxDLA prides itself on being a member driven association. At last year’s conference a new idea was put into place with volcanic sessions giving members a chance to discuss issues relevant to their needs. One of the sessions focused on MOOCs and from that came the development of TxDLA's first MOOC to be launched this summer. The MOOC is designed to prepare educators for success in an online environment. Details coming soon.
TxDLA Certifications or Badges: This year’s tackle box sessions at the conference brought about the idea of creating specialty certifications and/or badges that can be achieved by attending a series of workshops presented at the conference. These professional developments will be launched in collaboration with our partners at next year’s conference. Stay tuned for more details.
